Accoona Search

Backed by our proprietary Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and designed with a distinctive user-friendly interface, Accoona's search delivers highly relevant Web, business and news results. It analyzes search terms (as opposed to solely matching keywords) and ranks results by relevance. Users can use the SuperTarget Your Search™ tool to further refine their results by date, location, language and other parameters. Our technology also merges online and offline information to provide content-rich results. With these advanced search solutions, we have developed geographic-specific search engines for the U.S. (www.accoona.com), China (www.accoona.cn) and Europe (www.accoona.eu) in order to accommodate local markets. We also operate a shopping comparison search engine, Buyer'sEdge. This search engine allows shoppers to search for and compare products and prices available at numerous online merchants.

When we set out to build our cornerstone product - the Accoona search engine - we made ease-of-use and reliability our top priorities. The results had to be delivered rapidly and be relevant and rewarding. Our search engine’s features and tools are all designed with this goal in mind and together they create an experience that’s truly unique.

Artificial Intelligence

Accoona's proprietary Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms deliver relevant results by merging online and offline information and by analyzing search terms rather than just matching keywords. The patent-pending AI-powered search expands a user's query by providing results that are related to - but are not restricted to - the original search terms. For example, a search that includes the term "car" will also produce results containing the terms "auto" and "automobile," even if it doesn't contain the term "car." The technology then analyzes and ranks the results by relevance, using sophisticated algorithms that evaluate the proximity, frequency, and "ordinariness" of the search terms (uncommon terms are weighted higher than common terms) in the Web document index.

This technology also analyzes and extracts information during indexing to identify commonalities among documents, even if they are in different collections, so that Web pages and business records can be associated with news articles and vice versa. It also extracts people's names, company names, and locations. Users can then apply Accoona's SuperTarget Your Search tool to sort the results based on the parameters and criteria they specify as most important. The combination of these features refines the set of results while enabling users to target the most relevant results among them.

Business Search

Accoona's business database - provided free to our users - is one of the largest on the Web, with approximately 43 million unique records on global businesses. For a substantial portion of the 31 million North American and European companies in the database, we've partnered with Dun & Bradstreet (D&B), the leading provider of global business information. Key data includes contact information (address, telephone number, URL, etc.), business description, annual sales, number of employees and geographic location.

We augment D&B data with records from other sources as well as company-supplied information. Our Artificial Intelligence search technology pairs this information with Web site search results, and users can easily access it through Accoona's D&B button. If a company has branches, subsidiaries or corporate parents, there are links to the related profiles. If a company has a Web site, Accoona includes that information in its index and uses that data to augment the business search. Business data is updated on a monthly basis.

In addition to information on U.S. and European businesses, Accoona provides access to a database of more than 11 million Chinese companies.

News Search

We list more than 80,000 breaking news articles daily - just minutes after publication - from renowned newspapers, magazines, press releases, trade journals, niche publications, blogs and broadcast media.

We have partnered with Moreover, the premier news aggregation service, to deliver news articles from thousands of global sources. This complete coverage ensures our users a comprehensive view of news that matters most to them.

In addition, Moreover enriches each news article with over 30 fields of metadata. We leverage this metadata to give users the power to interactively search for relevant news articles using parameters such as publication, geographic location, date and other related fields.

SuperTarget Your Search

Accoona provides tools to help users refine their searches effortlessly - without all the fuss of advanced syntax or forms - by employing our SuperTarget Your Search™ features. Unique to Accoona, these sorting and filtering features empower users to take greater control of their searches. With them, it is easy to re-order results by date, location or the importance of a particular keyword in a multi-word query. We also provide easy-to-use filtering tools that enable users to select a subset of the initial result set. For example, users can view news results just from the last seven days or retrieve only Web documents that mention a specific company, person or place.

The sort and filter functions can be used in any combination to narrow a very large result set down to a handful of items that meet the searcher's specific criteria. Unlike other search engines that only allow users to browse the first 500 or 1,000 results even as they report having far more, Accoona allows the user to view all search results and provides SuperTarget Your Search features to bring transparency to the entire index and help users to view the results in the query result set that are most relevant to them.

Talking Searchbar

The Accoona Searchbar can be easily downloaded and installed by users in their Internet browser's navigational system. This placement makes the Accoona Search Engine always available so users can perform a search without first having to load our homepage.

Our searchbar offers the same Web, business and news search functionality as our search engine does. It also contains text-to-speech (TTS) technology that reads aloud English-language text selected by the user.
